Rep. Fudge Visits Merrick House
On March 30, 2010, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge, the 11th District Representative, joined us at our Merrick House West location. She spoke at the Senior Center during their lunch hour, answering questions about the recently passed health care reform bill. There was a great turnout, and many great questions were asked by those in attendance. Some important changes occuring this year that will help seniors include:
- CLOSE THE DOUGHNUT HOLE by immediately providing a $250 rebate to all Part D enrollees who enter the donut hole in 2010 and by providing additional discounts for brand‐name and generic drugs to close the donut hole completely
- PROTECT MEDICARE by shoring up funding for the program. Health insurance reform extended Medicare’s solvency by, at least, 9 years to ensure Medicare is provided to all Americans as they enter their golden years.
- LOWER PERSCRIPTION COSTS by immediately providing a 50 percent discount on brand‐name drugs in the donut hole.
- PROVIDE FREE PREVENTIVE CARE, you will pay nothing on preventive screenings and services designed to keep you healthier longer.
- IMPROVE PRIMARY CARE by increasing reimbursements to doctors who provide primary care, increasing access to these services for people with Medicare.
- ENHANCE SAFETY by developing national standards that measure medical care quality, by investing in patient safety, and rewarding doctors and nurses who administer high quality care.
If you have any questions concerning your health care coverage, feel free to contact Rep. Fudge’s local office at 216-522-4900.
