Community Outreach

ORGANIZING FOR CLEVELAND’S WEST SIDE NEIGHBORS

Together, we can strengthen our neighborhoods and improve the lives of the people living in them.

Merrick House is committed to making our communities stronger. In addition to our on-site programming, we are involved in a number of initiatives to provide support and resources to individuals and families living in the Tremont, Clark-Fulton, Stockyard, Brooklyn-Centre, and surrounding neighborhoods.

MERRICK HOUSE COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Merrick House sponsors various community outreach programs that address the concerns of our youth, parents, families, seniors, and immigrants living in our communities. We are especially proud of our initiatives to support pregnant mothers to help guide them through pregnancy and connecting them to all the resources they need as parents.

MomsFirst Program
A FREE outreach program for pregnant moms designed to help them have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Moms work one-on-one with a Community Health Worker who is specially trained to provide home visits and support services.

Shoes and Clothes for Kids

Shoes and Clothes for Kids
Merrick House is a distribution center for Cleveland’s Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K). Your donation of new or gently used children’s shoes and clothing positively impacts the lives of area children who are living in poverty. View the impact of the program here. Check our Events Calendar for distribution days.

Cribs for Kids
Sleep-related deaths remain the number one cause of infant death after the first month of age. It is important for babies to have a safe sleeping environment of their own. Merrick House is a distribution site for new or gently used cribs that meet current safety standards. Please contact Tiffany Ashley at 216.771.7297 ext. 110 to donate a crib or to find out if you qualify for an available crib.Parents, please remember the ABS of Infant Sleep Safety:

MERRICK HOUSE COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

The staff and volunteers at Merrick House are dedicated to forming an interconnected community of members who want to continue the movement to revitalize and sustain our neighborhoods while celebrating our unique differences.

Issue-Based Advocacy
To help our neighborhoods thrive, Merrick House provides issue-based advocacy support by lending our services and calling upon community partners to improve communications and support the voice of power for people and small businesses in Cleveland’s Tremont and surrounding areas. We help our residents fight for social justice and progressive change, holding organizations, institutions and governmental bodies accountable for their actions. If you are having problems caused by one of these previously mentioned groups, please feel free to contact us at 216.771.5077.

Block Clubs
Block Clubs bring neighborhoods together and draw strength from the diverse perspectives of their members. They are a great forum for sharing and for establishing goals for advocacy work. As more people become engaged and organized in their community, they can see firsthand the positive change that they can create.
